Haringey Council's housing adaptation program is achieving high marks from residents, with a 90% satisfaction rate reported. The Haringey Housing, Planning and Development Scrutiny Panel met on Monday 23 June 2025 to discuss the program, along with resident engagement and overall housing service performance.
The panel reviewed a report detailing how the Occupational Therapy (OT) Aids and Adaptations service collaborates with Housing to provide equipment and adaptations for residents. These adaptations range from minor adjustments like lever taps and stair rails (costing under £1,000) to major projects such as wet rooms and stairlifts (costing over £1,000). The service operates within the framework of key legislation, including the Care Act 2014, Equality Act 2010, and Social Housing Regulation Act 2023.
While the report highlighted the 90% satisfaction rate, it also acknowledged challenges such as complex cases, timescale issues, and delays. To address these, a programme board has been initiated to improve coordination between departments and determine future resource needs. The panel also received updates on resident engagement and housing service performance, including repairs, voids, and tenancy management.
In addition to housing adaptations, the panel reviewed the Resident Engagement Annual Review for 2023-24, which highlighted the success of the Resident Voice Board and Continuous Improvement Groups in shaping housing policies and services. The panel also discussed the terms of reference and work programme for the coming year, ensuring alignment with the council's strategic outcomes.
