Holborn residents will soon benefit from enhanced security measures as Camden Council approves the installation of new locks for communal entrances. The decision was reached during the Holborn District Management Committee (DMC) meeting on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, where community safety and local budget allocations were key discussion points.
The move aims to address rising concerns about anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the area. According to a Community Safety Report presented at the meeting, Holborn and Bloomsbury wards rank second and third respectively for ASB reports across Camden, with drug use and dealing being the most frequently cited issues.
To combat this, the Holborn DMC approved funding for several projects, including £1,774 each for Seymour House TRA and Medway Court for two Gerda lock covers for communal entrances. Additionally, £887 was allocated for a lockable box and Gerda lock at 25 Gresse Street. These measures are intended to prevent unauthorized access and deter criminal activity.
Beyond community safety, the Holborn DMC also addressed other important local issues, including a heating network update, the Holborn DMC budget for 2025/2026, and a proposal to establish a sub-committee to scrutinise the application of the Procurement Act 2023 in Camden. The proposed members of the sub-committee are Richard Walker and Alex Khawaja from Red Lion Square TRA, and Ros Perrott from Brunswick TRA. The committee would advise the DMC on any issues that arise from the Procurement Act.
The Holborn DMC's total minor revenue and major works budget for 2025/2026 is £144,760.00, demonstrating the council's commitment to investing in local improvements and resident safety.
