Camden's Holborn District Management Committee (DMC) is considering establishing a sub-committee to scrutinise the application of the Procurement Act 2023 within the borough.
The proposal, put forward at the DMC meeting on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, aims to enhance transparency and accountability in Camden's procurement processes. The sub-committee would advise the DMC on any issues arising from the Act's implementation.
Initial members proposed for the sub-committee are Richard Walker and Alex Khawaja from Red Lion Square TRA, and Ros Perrott from Brunswick TRA. The sub-committee would also have the power to co-opt other residents of Holborn council housing and obtain external expert advice.
Dr Peter Wright, Chair of Holborn DMC, has suggested three fundamental aspects of the DMC: facilitating good meetings, supporting Tenant and Resident Associations (TRAs), and supporting DMC representatives. He also noted that the DMC constitution deliberately provides for any resident of Camden's council housing in Holborn to be able to access the DMC.
During the meeting, the committee also discussed a range of other issues, including community safety, heating network updates, and the Holborn DMC budget for 2025/2026. The minor revenue and major works budget for 2025/2026 is £144,760.00.
Three new bids were submitted for consideration:
- Seymour House TRA: £1,774.00 for two Gerda lock covers for communal entrances.
- Medway Court: £1,774.00 for two Gerda lock covers for communal entrances.
- Officer led – 25 Gresse Street: £887.00 for a lockable box and Gerda lock.
The committee also received an update on Camden's heat networks and the council's response to changes in the remit of the Energy Ombudsman. Camden operates a number of district and communal heating systems supplying over 12,000 homes and expects to invest in the region of £100m in these networks between 2025 and 2030.
