Camden Council is set to invest £100 million in its heating networks between 2025 and 2030, aiming to provide residents with efficient and reliable heating and hot water. The announcement came during a Holborn District Management Committee (DMC) meeting on Tuesday 24 June 2025, where the committee discussed various community issues, including anti-social behaviour and tenant engagement.
The investment will focus on upgrading district and communal heating systems, which currently serve over 12,000 homes in Camden. The council aims to modernise older systems, potentially incorporating hybrid gas/Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) systems to align with net-zero targets. The council's new Housing Asset Management Strategy, adopted in January 2025, has allocated significant funding for these improvements.
In addition to the heating network update, the Holborn DMC discussed community safety, noting that Holborn and Bloomsbury wards rank second and third in Camden for anti-social behaviour (ASB) reports. Drug use and dealing are the most frequently reported issues. Actions to combat ASB include increased patrols, collaboration with local organisations, and environmental improvements.
The committee also considered a proposal to establish a sub-committee to scrutinise the application of the Procurement Act 2023 in Camden. Initial members proposed were Richard Walker and Alex Khawaja from Red Lion Square TRA, and Ros Perrott from Brunswick TRA.
The Holborn DMC also discussed its budget allocation for 2025/2026, which is £144,760.00. Three new bids were submitted for consideration, including requests for Gerda lock covers for communal entrances at Seymour House TRA and Medway Court, and a lockable box and Gerda lock for 25 Gresse Street.
