Enfield Council is considering exempting blue badge holders from Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) following a motion presented by Councillor Maria Alexandrou at a Council meeting on June 24, 2025. The motion calls for equality and fairness, arguing that blue badge holders are disproportionately impacted by LTNs and should have access without fear of penalty notices.
The meeting also addressed a range of other critical issues, including a petition urging divestment from companies allegedly complicit in international law violations, and the approval of the Housing & Growth Strategy 2025-2030. The Housing & Growth Strategy 2025-2030 sets out the council's vision for creating more and better homes in Enfield by working in partnership and bringing in long-term investment. The strategy outlines seven priorities, including building more affordable homes, investing in council homes, and tackling homelessness.
Councillors also discussed a petition with 3,368 signatures asking the Council to withdraw its investments from companies producing materials used in violations of international law and in what the petition describes as the current genocide
. The council was to decide how to respond to the petition, with options including taking the action requested, not taking the action, commissioning further investigation, or making recommendations to inform a decision by the council executive.
Furthermore, the council was asked to note the Treasury Outturn position for 2024/25, and to approve an update to the council's investment policy by increasing the limit on deposits placed with UK Banks from £5 million to £25 million, providing the counter party meets the minimum long term credit rating of A-.
Other motions included Councillor Chris Dey's call for all military compensation to be disregarded as income when assessing applications for benefits, and Councillor Lee Chamberlain's motion regarding the Shires Estate Tower blocks, instructing the Housing Cabinet Member to act and put in an immediate and hard target date for the full decommissioning of the blocks.
