Croydon's Pension Board is taking steps to ensure its membership reflects the diversity of the community it serves. This initiative follows a recommendation from the Scheme Advisory Board (SAB)'s Good Governance Review, which stated that Each fund must produce and publish a policy on the representation of scheme members and non-administering authority employers on its committees, explaining its approach to representation and voting rights for each party.
At a meeting on 13 November 2025, the board reviewed its Representation Policy, aiming to promote a more inclusive and representative structure. The updated policy already reflects the designation of the Staff Side Representative as a voting member of the Pension Committee, and the introduction of a Voting Non-Council Employer Representative of the Pension Committee.
According to the Review of Representation Policy, officers are currently seeking advice on how to capture data concerning protected characteristics of the Board and Committee members. This initiative aims to foster greater diversity within these bodies.
One area of concern highlighted in the Review of Representation Policy is the lack of representation for members with deferred benefits. Officers are exploring ways to address this gap in the future.
While the updated Representation Policy reflects the current composition of the Pension Committee and Pension Board, the Review of Representation Policy does not specify a timeline for further implementation of changes.
The reviewed Representation Policy is attached as Appendix A to the Review of Representation Policy.
