Redbridge Council is set to trace approximately 700 pension members who have a gone away indicator on their records. The team will undertake a trace operation for those members to locate them and ensure they receive their entitled pension benefits. The team are also taking the opportunity to undertake some data cleansing, particularly identifying those records where members appear to have not worked for some time and closing those records down. The initiative was announced during a recent Pension Fund Committee meeting on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, where the administration of the council's Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) function was discussed.

The council's pension administration team identified these members while producing annual benefit statements. According to the Pension Administration Quarterly Update Report, the trace operation aims to locate these individuals and ensure they receive their entitled pension benefits.

In line with Redbridge Council’s digital programme and cost-saving measures, the decision has been taken to cease sending paper annual benefit statements via post. This move is intended to comply with the council's digital programme as well as cost saving. This move is intended to encourage members to register for the new Engage member portal, which is replacing the Member Self Service (MSS) system in December. Members currently signed up for MSS will seamlessly move over to the new portal. The pensions manager is working with Heywoods on the communication leaflet needed.
