Kingston Council is considering adding secure cycle parking to New Malden High Street and Coombe Road following concerns raised about bike theft.
The New and Old Malden Neighbourhood Committee suggested the cycle parking as part of scheme item 20, Cycle Parking Programme
, during discussions of the Proposed Local Implementation Plan (LIP) Programme 2026/27 at the Place Committee meeting on 20 November 2025. According to the Public Reports Pack, work on the proposed schemes is expected to commence in April 2026, subject to funding approval from Transport for London (TfL).
The committee resolved to approve the schemes listed in Annex 1 of the report for submission to TfL.
The Public Reports Pack stated that TfL has offered the opportunity to submit bids for residential cycle parking, and officers are currently assessing capacity for additional parking in the council's housing estates. This information will be shared with ward councillors before the bid is submitted to TfL.
The Place Committee also delegated authority to the Director of Highways, Transport and Regulatory Services, in consultation with the relevant Portfolio Holder, to approve any necessary adjustments or prioritisation of the proposed schemes if TfL amends the funding levels.
