Bexley Council has opened its first Family Hub in Erith, located on West Street. The hub is part of the council's broader Future Bexley: Transforming Our Borough Together
initiative, a corporate transformation portfolio aimed at improving services and ensuring value for money for residents. The Future Bexley - Position Update Final report also notes that a review is underway to capture the learning from the Erith Family Hub, which will directly inform the Council's strategy for expanding this model across the borough.
The Future Bexley initiative aims to address significant financial challenges outlined in the Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS). The MTFS projects a cumulative budget gap of £11.794m in 2026/27, rising to £23.519m in 2029/30.
The Family Hub, a key component of the Children's Services Programme, will serve as a community-led space offering a variety of resources and dedicated support, centralising connection and access to help for families from pregnancy up to 18 years of age. The hub aims to centralise access to help and provide early intervention services.
The Public Cabinet received an update on the Future Bexley programme at their meeting on 27 November 2025. According to the Future Bexley - Position Update Final report, the Children's Services Programme is also focused on identifying cost-saving opportunities in placement commissioning. A review of placement processes for children in care has highlighted tangible opportunities to reduce costs while ensuring individual children's needs are met through the Valuing Care approach.
The Future Bexley initiative is structured around five transformation programmes, including the Culture Programme, Corporate Core Programme, Customer Experience Programme, Children's Services Programme, and Commercialisation Programme. The initiative aims to deliver financial benefits, increase operational efficiency, and embed resident-centric service provision.
The Cabinet also noted that the Transformation and Programme Management Office (PMO) Team is being enhanced to secure the successful delivery of the Future Bexley portfolio.
