Public perception of the police in Haringey has improved, but remains slightly below the London average, according to a report discussed at the Haringey Community Safety Partnership meeting on Wednesday, 25 June 2025.
While Haringey sits 16th in London with 44% of residents believing the police do a good job locally, this represents a 3% increase over the past year. The London average is 45%.
The meeting, a stocktake of the Haringey Community Safety Partnership, also reviewed crime performance and partnership funding. Overall crime in Haringey has fallen by 2% in the 12 months to June 2025, compared to a 0.2% decrease across London as a whole. Just over 28,000 crimes were recorded in the borough during that period.
Haringey's crime rate is 97 per 1,000 population, ranking 11th highest in London. The most common crimes reported are theft, violence, and vehicle offences, with Noel Park, Northumberland Park, and South Tottenham experiencing the highest volumes.
Reductions have been noted in key crime types, including youth violence, robbery, and violence with injury.
The Haringey Community Safety Partnership has secured £2.9 million in funding over four years. This will support initiatives focused on reducing violence, increasing trust and confidence, creating safer communities, supporting victims, and protecting people from exploitation and harm. Priorities include Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), serious youth violence, criminal exploitation, and hate crime.
Funding sources include the MOPAC London Crime Prevention Fund (LCPF) and the VRU London Crime Prevention Fund (LCPF). These funds will support early intervention, drug-related antisocial behaviour initiatives, integrated group offending teams, VAWG projects, a hate crime coordinator, youth services, and prison link workers.
The meeting also addressed upcoming legislation and initiatives, including the Crime and Policing Bill (2025), the Home Office Community Safety Partnership Review, ASB Data Reporting, Prisoner Sentencing Reform, Prevention Partnerships and Panels, and Home Office Hyper Local Knife Crime Hotspot Funding.
