Redbridge Council is set to receive the handover of the River Roding flood alleviation project in December 2025. The River Roding Project aims to reduce the risk of flooding to over 1,400 residential properties in Woodford and Ilford.

The update was provided at the External Scrutiny Committee meeting on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, where representatives from the Environment Agency (EA) presented the latest developments on the River Roding Project.

The project includes two key components:

  1. A new flood storage area north of the M25, designed to hold floodwater upstream.
  2. Improvements to a flood embankment in Woodford.

According to the EA Redbridge - Scrutiny Committee 10 Dec 25 report, the handover of the Broadmead Baptist Church embankment to Redbridge Council is scheduled for December 2025.
