Rayners Lane Red Route review planned amid positive feedback and ongoing issues

Harrow Council is planning a review of the Red Route on Rayners Lane following initial positive feedback, with a traffic survey set to assess various aspects of the scheme. The Overview and Scrutiny Committee heard that while the Red Route has significantly reduced traffic issues, problems such as double parking have not been entirely eliminated.

Councillor Paul Osborn, Leader of the Council, told the committee that the initial reaction to the Red Route had been positive, stating, It does seem to have significantly reduced the issues there, not eliminated them. He added that enforcement capabilities have improved, making it more difficult for drivers to obstruct the road. These enhancements are being implemented to prevent road obstruction, as evidenced by the improved ability to issue fines for parking in the middle of the road, which was previously a common occurrence.

The review will include an assessment of loading bays, moped parking, and other elements of the scheme. A traffic survey for the Red Route on Rayners Lane is planned and may have already taken place towards the end of December. Regarding the persistent issues of double parking, the traffic survey will review loading bays and other aspects of the scheme. While the Red Route has generally improved traffic flow, double parking has not been entirely eliminated, and the scheme is under review.

The council is also reviewing concerns about parking spaces near the ambulance station and traffic lights on Imperial Drive. These spaces have been described as too small and have led to drivers receiving tickets. This issue is under review as part of the broader scheme assessment.
