Lewisham Council has approved a new strategy aimed at tackling the issue of long-term empty homes in privately owned properties.

The strategy, which will be in effect from 2026 to 2029, was reviewed and approved by Mayor and Cabinet on Wednesday, 11 February 2026.

The new approach combines support for property owners with enforcement tools, with the ultimate goal of bringing empty homes back into use to address housing needs within the borough.

Further details on the specific measures within the strategy are available in the appendix to the report.
