Lewisham Council's Mayor and Cabinet has approved plans to establish a new Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision at Deptford Park Primary School. The decision, made at a meeting on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, grants permission for officers to proceed with the statutory consultation period for the new unit.

The proposed provision will cater for 40 children with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). It is anticipated that the unit will be implemented in May 2026, with full operation expected by September 2026.

Councillor Edison Huynh, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, introduced the report, noting the council's wider programme to deliver additional SEND places in recent years. The proposal aims to enhance the support available for learners with severe learning difficulties within the borough.
