Croydon Council Tax is set to increase by nearly £120 for properties in Band D, bringing the total annual charge to £2,599.91 for the 2026-27 financial year. The decision was formally set by the Council Tax Setting Committee on Thursday, 26 February 2026, following the establishment of the committee at the Budget Council meeting the previous day and confirmation of the Greater London Authority (GLA) precept.

The Croydon element of the Council Tax will rise by 4.99%, an increase of £99.30 for a Band D property, bringing the local portion to £2,089.40. This includes a 2.00% levy for Adult Social Care.

Additionally, the GLA precept will increase by 4.10%, adding £20.13 to the annual bill for a Band D property, making its contribution £510.51. The combined increase means that Band D properties will face an overall rise of £119.43.

While Band D properties will see a significant increase, households in other Council Tax bands will also be affected. For example, a Band A property will have a total Council Tax of £1,733.27 for the 2026-27 financial year, and a Band H property will face a total charge of £5,199.82. These figures are detailed in the Appendix 1 Calculation of the 2026-27 Council Tax requirement and Council Tax bands document Appendix 1 Calculation of the 2026-27 Council Tax requirement and Council Tax bands.

The committee was scheduled to review and approve these figures, which align with Executive Mayor Jason Perry's business plan to balance the council's books and deliver sustainable services. The report detailing the calculations for various Council Tax bands and the overall requirement for funding services was presented to the committee as part of the Public reports pack 26th Feb 2026 17.00 Council Tax Setting Committee.

The meeting also included procedural matters such as the election of a Chair and Vice-Chair for the committee, and the receipt of apologies for absence. Members were reminded of their obligations regarding the disclosure of interests, as outlined in the Agenda frontsheet 26th Feb 2026 17.00 Council Tax Setting Committee. The overall proposal for Setting the Council Tax 2026-27 was also a key item for discussion Setting the Council Tax 2026-27.
