Merton Council's Overview and Scrutiny Committee has reviewed the council's budget and business plan, identifying potential savings and concluding its review without specific recommendations.
During a meeting on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, councillors examined the council's budget and business plan. They noted that an additional £1.3 million in savings were under consideration, bringing the total to £8.3 million. The committee was informed that a further £1.744 million needs to be identified before the February Budget Council.
The Executive Director and Cabinet Member expressed confidence in Merton Council's ability to achieve its savings targets, with an 89% delivery rate reported. The committee itself resolved not to refer a previous decision back to Cabinet, provided an overarching Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was noted at the next Cabinet meeting. However, there were no comments or recommendations from the three Scrutiny Panels or any reference for Cabinet from the Overview and Scrutiny Committee itself.
