Concerns have been raised about cycle safety near The Aldgate School, with a specific call for increased encouragement and enforcement of safe cycling practices in the area.

The Ward of Portsoken highlighted the issue in a resolution presented to the Court of Common Council on Thursday, May 21, 2026. The ward cited local examples of dangerous and irresponsible cycling by e-bike users as the basis for their concerns, urging the City of London Corporation to both encourage and enforce cycle safety, particularly in the area of The Aldgate School.

This concern is part of broader discussions surrounding road safety within the City. The Ward of Cordwainer also expressed deep concern about the risk to pedestrians caused by the high number of cyclists who do not comply with the Highway Code. They have asked the Corporation to consider what enforcement measures could be introduced or strengthened to address this issue within the Square Mile.

The Ward of Portsoken thanked the City of London Corporation for its efforts in managing e-bikes but stressed the need for greater attention to cycle safety.

The resolutions were presented during a meeting of the Court of Common Council, details of which can be found in the Public reports pack.
