Greenwich is planning a significant expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, aiming to install 1,150 new lamp post chargers by 2026. The initiative is part of the council's broader transport strategy to encourage the use of electric vehicles and improve air quality.
The plan was discussed at the Royal Borough of Greenwich Transport and Place Scrutiny Panel meeting on Thursday, 03 July 2025, as part of an update on the council's transport work programme for 2025-26. The contracts with EV providers will also allow for up to 1,000 charge points to be installed.
The Transportation work programme for 2025/26 includes awarding contracts with Electric Vehicle (EV) providers to provide 1,150 lamp post chargers under Low Emission Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) funding and up to 1,000 charge points.
The council's Electric Vehicle Policy Framework Action Plan outlines how the council will deliver schemes and actions to build on the policies contained within the Transport Strategy. The Action Plans are looking to be updated in 2025/26 to provide necessary deliverables for the next phase of schemes.
