Greenwich Council is set to consult on the implementation of 21 new school streets, utilising Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology to enforce restrictions.
The decision was highlighted during a meeting of the Transport and Place Scrutiny Panel on Thursday, where the council's transport work programme for 2025-26 was discussed.
The plan to consult on these additional school streets is part of a broader effort to improve road safety and encourage active travel within the borough. The council is also considering making permanent 11 existing school streets that already use ANPR.
The council aims to complete the public consultation and, following a review of the feedback, begin delivering some of the new school streets by the end of the 2025/26 financial year, according to the Transport Work Programme Update.
