The Tower Hamlets General Purposes Committee has deferred a discussion on the May 2026 election update to its next meeting, scheduled for 8 September 2026. The decision was made due to the unexpected absence of Rob Curtis, Head of Electoral Services, who was expected to present a comprehensive report on the elections.
During the meeting on Monday, 29 June 2026, councillors acknowledged that the election had taken place and a result had been announced. However, Matthew Mannion, Corporate Head of Democratic and Governance Services, explained that Mr. Curtis was unable to attend. The committee agreed to postpone the discussion to allow for a more comprehensive presentation from Mr. Curtis at the next meeting.
Councillors expressed their appreciation for the significant work of Mr. Curtis and his team in delivering the May 2026 election. Robert Curtis and his team delivered an excellent election and I think his team worked tirelessly,
noted one councillor, highlighting their dedication despite his absence from the committee meeting. The potential implication of this deferral is that the committee will have to wait until the next scheduled meeting on 8 September 2026 to receive the full details of the election update.
