Haringey Council's Cabinet has approved a new contract aimed at speeding up repairs to council homes.
The decision, made at a meeting on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, will see the procurement of a multi-service call-off contract to manage void property refurbishment, compliance, and remediation works across the council's housing portfolio. This contract will have an initial five-year term with options to extend for up to two additional one-year periods.
The move is intended to provide additional capacity, improve coordination, standardise delivery, and reduce the time it takes to return empty properties to occupation. Delays in returning properties to use place pressure on homelessness and temporary accommodation services by reducing the availability of housing stock.
Councillor Tammy Hymas, Cabinet Member for Housing and Deputy Leader, stated, No matter whether a property is owned privately, or by the Council, every empty home in Haringey is a missed opportunity to address the housing crisis.
She added, This proposal will increase capacity, flexibility, and coordination in our existing repairs service, ultimately reducing the amount of time that our homes sit empty.
