Waltham Forest Council debated parking policies and business support during a recent Council meeting, with significant concerns raised about the impact of current Labour policies on local businesses, particularly in Chingford.
During the Council meeting on Thursday, 16 July 2026, Peter Heatherley, representing the Drysdale and District Residents Association and Chingford Residents Association, urged the reintroduction of free parking periods on Station Road and elsewhere in the north of the borough. He stated that this was essential to keep small businesses active, promote inclusion and avoid discrimination,
and added that Consultation outcomes have been ignored.
Heatherley believes the restoration of free parking periods is the way to support local residents and businesses, aligning with the Green Party manifesto.
Councillor Kay Isa questioned Councillor Eva Tabbasam, Deputy Leader (Housing and Regeneration), about the impact of Labour's parking changes on businesses in Chingford.
