Tower Hamlets councillors are set to investigate the frustrations young people face in accessing work opportunities within the borough, despite the presence of Canary Wharf.
The issue was raised by Councillor Mads Churchhouse during a Children and Education Scrutiny Sub-Committee meeting on Monday, 14 September 2026. The committee was discussing its draft work programme for the upcoming municipal year.
Councillor Churchhouse suggested that the council should explore the reasons behind young people's difficulties in finding employment locally, highlighting the apparent paradox of a thriving business district like Canary Wharf existing alongside these challenges.
The committee agreed that this investigation would help shape the final work programme, which will be referred to the Overview and Scrutiny Committee for approval.
