Sutton Council is launching a new multi-agency panel in April 2025 to enhance adult safeguarding, aiming for clearer outcomes and better support for vulnerable residents. The panel will address cases involving hoarding and complex safeguarding issues.
The Adult Safeguarding Multi Agency Panel, discussed at the Carshalton and Clockhouse Local Committee meeting on Tuesday, will incorporate current risk panels dealing with hoarding and complex safeguarding cases. Sandra Howard, Assistant Director Adults & Safeguarding People Services at Sutton Council, outlined that the panel will include representatives from Adult Social Care London Borough of Sutton (chair), Integrated Care Board, London Fire Brigade, Community Health, Sutton Police Community Safety Team, Sutton Housing Partnership, and Mental Health.
The panel aims to achieve several key outcomes:
- Clearer outcomes for complicated cases
- Joined-up resolution for residents
- Wrap-around services learning from each other
- Possible funding applications to support outcomes (e.g., hoarding)
- Risk management shared across professionals
During the meeting, a case overview was presented involving a 90-year-old gentleman with a history of non-engagement with professionals. The resident was referred to social services due to concerns about self-neglect, hoarding, and the upcoming demolition of his flat. Housing and social care collaborated to move the resident into supported accommodation.
