Harrow Council's pension fund has reported a data breach concerning the McCloud remedy, impacting an estimated 2,000 individuals.
The breach involved the omission of specific member details related to the McCloud remedy from Annual Benefit Statements (ABS). The McCloud remedy refers to retrospective amendments to members' pensions and other rights that needed to be concluded and reflected in ABS. The significance lies in ensuring that all active records that qualify for the McCloud remedy were updated and accurate for inclusion in the ABS. The failure to do so constituted a breach reported to the Pensions Regulator.
Yvette Salthouse, Head of Payroll and Pensions, explained that while generic information about the McCloud remedy was included in the ABS, specific member-specific details were not. This oversight has led to the breach notification.
Harrow Council is working to get an external sourcing to help us get rid of all this backlog of work
to rectify the omission. The remediation work is targeted for completion by 31 March 2027
. This means individuals can expect to receive corrected Annual Benefit Statements by this date.
The breach has been reported to the Pensions Regulator. However, the meeting minutes do not specify what actions the regulator might take, and feedback had not yet been received from them at the time of the report.
