A cherry tree at 37 Keswick Road, Putney, has been saved from being felled after Wandsworth Council's Planning Applications Committee confirmed Tree Preservation Order (TPO) 506/2025. The decision follows a request to protect the tree after a resident notified other flat owners of their intention to remove it to allow for sunbathing in the front garden.
TPOs are granted to protect trees with significant public amenity value. TPO 506/2025 was made because the cherry tree is prominently visible in the street scene.
The committee reviewed the TPO during a meeting on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, where members discussed the tree's health, condition, and amenity value.
According to the Paper No. 25-282 report, the council's Tree Officer inspected the cherry tree and found it to be healthy and in good condition and suitable to be covered by a Tree Preservation Order.
The council received seven responses supporting the TPO and one objection from the resident who wanted to fell the tree. The objector later submitted TPO application 2025/0674 for crown thinning and reduction, which was approved in May 2025, indicating a willingness to retain the tree with some modifications.
