Harrow College will soon have temporary classrooms to accommodate a rise in student numbers, following a decision by Harrow Council's Planning Committee.
The committee, which met on Thursday 25 September 2025, approved application PL/1557/25 for the installation of a two-storey Portakabin building at Harrow College, Brookshill. The temporary structure will provide 5 no. classrooms, staff room, training room, circulation space and WC facilities on both floors with an external staircase and lift access. The classrooms and office space will be in place for a temporary period of five years, after which it will be removed and the area restored to its original state, according to the Public reports pack.
The council plans to ensure the area is restored to its original state after the five-year period by including a condition that requires the educational building to be removed and the area restored to its original state. The specific details of how this will be done will be part of a scheme of work submitted to, and approved by, the local planning authority.
The Chief Planning Officer recommended that the Planning Committee agree to the reasons for approval as set out in the report and grant planning permission subject to the conditions listed in Appendix 1 of the report. The committee, chaired by Councillor Marilyn Ashton, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Planning & Regeneration, voted to approve the application.
Other planning applications considered at the meeting included a major development at the Travellers Rest site on Kenton Road, proposals for Pinner Cricket Club, Bentley Wood High School, and 3 Gerard Road.
