Haringey Council is launching a public consultation on its draft 2026-27 budget and medium-term financial strategy as it grapples with a significant budget gap. The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, 11 November 2025.
The cabinet noted the current estimated budget gap for 2026/27 and the remaining period of the Medium-Term Financial Strategy (MTFS) and the key changes since the last update in July 2025 (Section 13.5) in this report.
The council also acknowledged the new risks and uncertainties in Section 15
of the same report that could impact the financial outlook.
The council faces difficult decisions as it seeks to balance its books while continuing to provide essential services to residents. The consultation, approved during the cabinet meeting, aims to gather feedback on proposed savings, pressures, and changes to the capital programme for the period of 2026/27 to 2030/31. The cabinet noted the proposed new savings, pressures and capital programme changes for 2026/27 – 2030/31 (Appendices 1 to 6).
The General Fund Revenue Budget, Capital Strategy, Capital Programme, Housing Revenue Account (HRA) 2026/27 Budget and Business Plan, and Treasury Management Strategy Statement will be presented to the Cabinet on 11 February 2026, before being recommended for approval to the Full Council meeting on 3 March 2026.
The council encourages all residents to participate in the budget consultation to help shape the future of Haringey.
