Haringey Council is intensifying its efforts to combat alcohol-related harm, which costs the borough an estimated £143.3 million annually. The Haringey Alcohol Strategy and Action Plan 2025-2029, discussed at a Health and Wellbeing Board meeting on Thursday, 26 June 2025, aims to reduce alcohol-related harm through prevention, harm reduction, and treatment.
The strategy recognises that alcohol-related harm affects everyone and has a lasting impact on communities. Parental alcohol misuse, for example, is strongly correlated with family conflict and domestic abuse. The plan is divided into sections based on critical stages in a person's life:
- Start Well: Focuses on young residents and their families, aiming to ensure a safe environment for children.
- Live Well and Age Well: Focuses on the wellbeing of all adults, reducing health risks and promoting good physical and mental health.
- Healthy Place: Focuses on the impact of the built environment on all stages of life and on community cohesion.

- 23 alcohol-specific deaths in 2023.
- 62 alcohol-related deaths in 2023.

The action plan includes proposed objectives for 2025 to 2029, with actions for each year, monitoring plans, and assigned leads. The strategy aims to address these issues through a cohesive public health approach to alcohol prevention, harm reduction, and treatment.
