A recent report highlights the need for increased support for carers in Haringey, prompting discussion at a Haringey Council Health and Wellbeing Board meeting on Thursday, 26 June 2025.
The Haringey Adult Social Care Carers Strategy was a key topic, with the board acknowledging that many carers are dissatisfied with current support levels. According to the 2021 Census, approximately 16,891 Haringey residents (7.2% of the population aged five and over) provide unpaid care. The strategy sets out a vision that: All Carers, of all ages, are recognised, respected, and supported.
The mission is to ensure carers feel valued, have access to tailored information and resources, receive timely and compassionate support, maintain their wellbeing, and balance caring responsibilities with personal goals. Key priorities include improving access to information, strengthening carers' rights and resilience, and creating inclusive services. Action plan themes encompass getting the basics right, information and communication, health and wellbeing, respite and breaks, financial resilience and employment, and training.
Following the strategy's publication, a Carers Strategy Working Group will be formed, engaging a diverse range of carers who will receive training and support. This group will develop a detailed action plan and oversee implementation, reporting to various boards and panels.
The meeting also covered the Haringey Alcohol Strategy and Action Plan 2025-2029 and the Haringey Better Care Fund, with Councillor Lucia das Neves, Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care, and Wellbeing, presiding over the discussions.
