Kensington and Chelsea Council's Housing & Communities Select Committee is set to investigate a rise in evictions related to antisocial behaviour (ASB). The committee reviewed the Housing and Social Investment Key Performance Information report at a meeting on Wednesday 02 July 2025, which highlighted an increase in evictions for antisocial behaviour.

The report, which provided annual performance updates for 2024-2025, revealed that evictions for ASB had risen from one in March 2024 to nine in March 2025.

Doug Goldring, Director of Housing Management, explained that the increase was the result of a conscious effort over the past two to three years to take more decisive action against antisocial behaviour. He said that while the council prefers residents to change their behaviour, there needs to be consequences if they do not. Goldring noted that the nine cases started two or three years ago, with last year being when the final outcomes were reached. He added that legal action regarding antisocial behaviour had increased.

According to Goldring, those evicted for antisocial behaviour tend to be single individuals. He stated that after eviction, individuals are assessed to determine appropriate next steps regarding housing.

Cllr Boyd raised the issue during the meeting, asking about the reasons for the increase in evictions.

Goldring clarified that those evicted are typically single individuals, not families, and their subsequent housing situation varies. Some may be placed in supported accommodation, while others may disappear from the system. He also acknowledged that while evictions are a sad outcome, they often bring satisfaction to other residents in the affected block, as the problems are resolved when the person moves on.

Dan Kane noted the importance of the availability of social housing, and this was echoed by other councillors.

The committee agreed to include the report from the Social Housing Regulator in its work programme, as well as examining the end-to-end repairs process, communication with residents, and the complaints process.
