Haringey Council's Cabinet has approved the award of a heating contract to ensure the continued provision of safe and sustainable homes for council residents.
Bidder A has been awarded the contract for Domestic East (Lot 1). This decision is crucial for maintaining safety across the council's housing stock, which comprises approximately 14,000 homes.
The existing heating contracts were nearing the end of their five-year duration, necessitating a re-tendering process. The council rejected the option of doing nothing, as it would have failed to meet resident needs and statutory obligations. Continuing with the current contract was also deemed unviable as its period and value had been fully exhausted. Delivering the works in-house was discounted due to insufficient internal capacity and specialist expertise.
Budget provision for this new contract is contained within the current Housing Revenue Account Medium-Term Financial Strategy (HRA MTFS). The award ensures compliance with statutory regulations regarding landlord duties, specifically 'Statutory Regulation 36 (Duties of Landlords) under the Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations and other applicable regulations', aiming for minimal disruption and maximum safety for council residents.
