Harrow's outgoing Mayor, Councillor Anjana Patel, has announced that her chosen charities, We Are and Samaritans, have collectively raised over £32,000 during her year in office, a figure that may represent a new record for mayoral charity fundraising in the borough.
Councillor Patel reflected on her remarkable and deeply meaningful year of service,
which she described as amazing.
Her tenure was guided by a motto of kindness, caring and respect,
and she drew inspiration from her guru. Among the highlights of her term were engagements such as meeting the King, inaugurating the new council chamber, and celebrating the borough's 60th anniversary. The celebrations for Harrow's 60th year focused on our borough's proud history, but also the incredible community spirit that continues to unite us across all backgrounds and generations.
Councillor Patel expressed deep gratitude to her family, including her consort Rupesh Patel. She also extended thanks to numerous council departments and teams for their invaluable support. The Mayor's office staff, specifically mentioning Joe, Ishiro, and Jeff, were thanked for their indispensable help. Democratic Services staff were recognised for their guidance, professionalism and support,
while the Legal Department was acknowledged for their help and assistance behind the scenes.
The Communications Team, comprising Helen, Jyoti, Masuma, and Sara, were thanked for their efforts in promoting Bauros Civic Services in 60th year.
The Registrar's office staff were appreciated for their work with citizenship ceremonies, and the Arts Centre staff for their hard work and support during so many events.
The Multifate team was commended for their wonderful work you do in bringing staff together and promoting understanding and harmony across Harrow Council.
Finally, all Harrow Council staff were thanked for their dedication, hard work and commitment to serving our residents.
Councillor Patel's commitment to community events was evident, even in challenging conditions. Councillor Rashmi Kalu shared an anecdote about Councillor Patel's hands-on approach at the Roxas Show on a very hot day. Furthermore, Councillor Christopher Baxter noted her tremendous fortitude and resilience personally as well in the last few months of your mayoralty,
indicating that her year was not without its personal challenges, though specific details beyond her injury were not elaborated upon.
During her term, Councillor Patel engaged in numerous civic functions and community events. She was also recognised for her extensive fundraising efforts, with the £32,000 raised potentially setting a new benchmark for mayoral charity contributions in Harrow, as suggested by Councillor Hitesh Karia.
