Redbridge has seen a mixed bag of crime statistics, with shoplifting showing a notable increase, according to a recent report presented to the Redbridge Council External Scrutiny Committee.
The Metropolitan Police provided an update on criminal activity in the borough at the committee's meeting on Thursday 3 July 2025, revealing a 32.69% surge in shoplifting incidents over the past year. This increase was a key point of discussion, contrasting with declines in other crime categories.
While shoplifting has risen, the report indicated positive trends in other areas. Robbery, for instance, has decreased by 29.9%, and violence with injury has fallen by 16.5%. Burglary also saw a slight decrease of 1%.
The Public Reports Pack provided ward-based and town centre-based staffing levels for the Metropolitan Police, along with data on abstractions from duty.
The agenda for the meeting also included updates from the Youth Council and Transport for London (TfL).
