Hounslow Council has approved £150,000 in funding for a new inclusive playground at Brabazon Road, a project that has been a long-standing community request and is anticipated to open by March 2027.

The funding for the Brabazon Road Playground totals £150,000, with an equal split of 50% from the central government's Pride in Place impact fund and 50% from the council's Thriving Communities fund. This allocation was confirmed at the Heston and Cranford Area Forum meeting held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

The Pride in Place impact fund, which totals £1.5 million for community projects across Heston and Cranford, was allocated by central government based on deprivation indicators and community needs across the UK. While specific metrics for this area were not detailed, the council received the funding based on these general metrics.

Mariam Abdallah, Area Regen Manager, presented an update on the Pride in Place funded projects. She explained that the need for ongoing maintenance of new projects was a key consideration from the outset.

Beyond the playground, other initiatives receiving support from the Pride in Place fund include:

  • Outdoor seating for Heston Community Hub and Library: £5,000 has been allocated for this project.
  • Way Avenue Allotment: Funding will support the installation of a much-needed compostable toilet, improving accessibility for elderly residents and enabling wider activities.
  • Cranford Parade Greening Improvements: In partnership with Transport for London, this project will focus on enhancing green spaces, potentially including cycle hangers, seating, and planting.

The specific funding for the Way Avenue Allotment and Cranford Parade projects individually has not been detailed.

The new inclusive playground is expected to really deliver the benefits we need for local children, families and people to come together in a way that's not so common if these spaces didn't exist, suggesting positive impacts on social interaction and community well-being. The potential implementation date for the Brabazon Estate Children's Playground project is March 2027.
