Hounslow Council is set to install a compostable toilet at the Way Avenue Allotment as part of a wider initiative to improve local amenities, with the project expected to be completed by March 2027.
The decision was confirmed at the Heston and Cranford Area Forum meeting held on Wednesday, 2 September 2026. The project, funded by the Pride in Place
impact fund, aims to enhance accessibility for elderly residents and facilitate a broader range of activities at the allotment.
The compostable toilet will be designed to allow for accessibility for elder residents who use the space. This facility is expected to significantly improve the experience for existing users and encourage wider community involvement, allowing for a broader range of activities and programs to be sustained on the allotment.
Mariam Abdallah, Area Regen Manager for Hounslow Council, presented an update on the Pride in Place
fund. This initiative is a £1.5 million allocation from central government designed for neighbourhood investment. Specific projects highlighted under this fund include outdoor seating for Heston Community Hub and Library, a new inclusive playground at Brabazon Road Playground, greening improvements at Cranford Parade, and local shopfront improvements in Cranford.
Projects for the Pride in Place
fund are identified through community needs and existing council programmes. Ms. Abdallah explained that her regeneration team works across various council departments, including highways, parks, and environments, collaborating with locals, businesses, and external bodies with funding to turn actionable ambitions for an area
into tangible projects.
The Way Avenue Allotment project received funding specifically for the installation of the compostable toilet, addressing a long-standing need. The Pride in Place
funded projects, including the Way Avenue Allotment toilet installation, are all to be completed by March of next year, which is March 2027.
