Avenue Park is set to undergo significant improvements thanks to a substantial funding boost of £416,759. The funding, drawn from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and the Environment Agency, will support a range of enhancements to the popular local green space.
During a Heston and Cranford Area Forum meeting, Councillor Hira Dhillon provided an update on the ongoing work at Avenue Park. Surveys and assessments have been completed, and vegetation along the River Crane has been cleared, opening up new views and opportunities for residents to enjoy the area.
The additional funding will facilitate the creation of a new all-weather perimeter path, upgraded entrances, the installation of new benches and bins, and wider environmental enhancements. The Environment Agency's contribution will also focus on improving the river corridor, creating better habitats for wildlife, and supporting volunteer conservation activities over the next 18 months.
Community engagement remains a key aspect of the project, with ongoing activities designed to gather feedback and identify accessibility issues. Specifically, these efforts are aiming to identify better understand accessibility issues affecting people with disabilities and mobility changes.
Partnerships with organisations such as Trees for Cities are also in place, with plans to plant an orchard and a woodland foraging area this winter.
Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, Leader of the Council, confirmed that while the money has been secured and is in an account, detailed design work is still required, which influences the timing of the commencement of works. He assured that the project is progressing and that timelines would be communicated to residents.
