Wandsworth Council's Planning Applications Committee has confirmed Tree Preservation Order (TPO) 505/2025, protecting two London Plane trees at St. Stephen's Church on Battersea Bridge Road. The trees are considered to have significant public amenity value for those living in and travelling through the area, according to the Paper No. 25-282 report.
The decision, made at a meeting on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, follows an application to fell the trees because the boundary wall to the almshouses needed to be rebuilt. However, the council's arboricultural officer determined that the wall could be rebuilt without removing the trees, prompting the TPO to ensure their protection.
The committee reviewed the report on the matter, ultimately agreeing to confirm the order.
Councillor Tony Belton, chair of the Planning Applications Committee, opened the meeting at 7.30pm at Wandsworth Town Hall. Other members present included Councillor Guy Humphreys, Councillor Jamie Colclough, and Councillor Stephen Worrall. Apologies were received from Councillor Ravi Govindia.
