Redbridge residents will see a change in how their recycling is collected, with the current two-stream box system being replaced by wheeled bins for comingled recycling from 2028.
The decision was revealed at a Shareholder Reference Group meeting on 27 November 2025, where the RCS Quarterly Performance Report for Q2 2025/2026 was discussed. The move will see the end of the two-stream box system, where paper is separated from other recyclables.
The transition to wheeled bins for comingled recycling prompts a comprehensive review of the overall waste collection strategy,
according to the Managing Director Report included in the RCS Quarterly Performance Report. This review includes discussions around new operational models for other waste streams.
It is not yet known whether residents will receive one or multiple wheeled bins. The capacity of the bins has also not been specified, although the RCS Quarterly Performance Report mentions that residents on Eastern Avenue will receive a fortnightly wheeled bin collection
when recycling services resume in December.
