Redbridge's waste collection firm, Redbridge Civic Services (RCS), is implementing a targeted plan to reduce reversing incidents after data showed they account for a third of all vehicle-related accidents.
The plan was revealed in the RCS Quarterly Performance Report discussed at the Shareholder Reference Group meeting on 27 November 2025. According to the Managing Director Report included in the RCS Quarterly Performance Report, the initiative includes:
- Immediate toolbox talks with all operatives
- A review of the Reversing Assistant Protocol and associated training programme
- A commitment to thorough investigation of all reversing-related accidents
- Enhanced monitoring of collection crews during reversing manoeuvres
- Displaying awareness posters within the depot to highlight the risks associated with reversing
The Managing Director Report to the Shareholder Reference Group for Q2 2025 stated that while the overall accident rate within the RCS team is not a cause for concern, the proportion of reversing-related accidents – approximately one in every three – requires focused attention.
Lukasz Kulaga, Managing Director of RCS, highlighted the focus on reversing incidents in his Q2 performance report, noting that a review is underway to gain deeper insight and develop targeted actions. The RCS Chair Report from Josie Falco, RCS Board Chair, also mentioned Health and Safety Performance improvements targeting reversing related incidents.
