Wandsworth Council's Planning Applications Committee convened on Thursday, 26 June 2025, to discuss a range of development proposals, including plans for new homes and commercial space on Hereward Road. The meeting, which included Councillors Tony Belton, Finna Ayres, and Sara Apps, considered applications ranging from major redevelopments to minor alterations.
The most significant item was the application for the demolition of existing warehouse and garage buildings at Scenery House, 2 Hereward Road, and the erection of a four-storey building. The new structure would provide one four-bedroom dwelling, two five-bedroom dwellinghouses, and four two-bedroom flats, alongside mixed commercial employment floorspace. The commercial space would accommodate storage and logistics, office space, research & development, and light industrial uses. The Head of Development Management (Wandsworth) recommended approval with conditions, subject to a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) payment.
However, the application faced opposition from local residents, with 10 neighbour objections citing concerns about overdevelopment, loss of privacy, adverse impacts on daylight and sunlight, and a design out of keeping with the area. Despite these concerns, Historic England (GLAAS) raised no objection, subject to a written scheme of investigation, and Transport for London (TfL) also had no objections, pending a design and construction method statement.
Other key items on the agenda included a proposal to demolish the Salvation Army Citadel and erect a new six-storey building at 9 Ram Street, and an application to increase the maximum number of pupils at Finton House School. The committee also reviewed recent planning decisions made under delegated authority, closure of investigation files, and closed appeals.
