Redbridge Council is set to review committee appointments at its meeting on Thursday, 26 June 2025, alongside discussions on motions addressing key local and national issues.
The council will consider a report recommending changes to committee appointments agreed at the annual council meeting on 15 May 2025. Details of the changes will be published prior to the meeting, with any further changes tabled at the meeting itself. The council is recommended to agree to the changes, according to the report.
Beyond committee appointments, councillors will debate motions on several pressing issues. Councillor Vanisha Solanki, Deputy Leader of the Council & Labour Group and Cabinet Member for Finance, will move a motion to join the Local Government Association's (LGA) Debate Not Hate campaign, addressing abuse and intimidation of councillors. The motion aims to take a zero-tolerance approach to abuse and strengthen reporting mechanisms.
Councillor Jo Blackman, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, is scheduled to move a motion regarding e-scooters, calling for improved regulation and enforcement to combat the dangerous use of illegal e-scooters and e-bikes. The motion highlights the risks, noting that there were over 1,400 casualties involving escooters across the UK, including 12 fatalities
in 2022.
Additionally, Councillor Rosa Gomez will move a motion opposing proposed government cuts to disability benefits, expressing concerns about restricting access to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and reducing benefit rates. The council will also discuss a report on the review and redrafting of the council's constitution, focusing on immediate changes to Council Standing Orders and Committee Procedure Rules.
