Bromley is set to benefit from an ongoing gigabit rollout, with updates discussed at the Bromley Economic Partnership meeting on 1 July 2025, according to the Agenda Frontsheet. The initiative aims to bring faster internet speeds to businesses and residents across the borough.
Beyond just faster internet, the gigabit rollout is expected to bring other benefits. The dark fibre network has already been used to connect community hubs and CCTV, resulting in tangible cost savings for the council.
The meeting included an update on the Openreach Bromley gigabit rollout. In April 2025, ITS Technology Group, an alternative network provider, reported that 77 kilometres of dark fibre network had been laid across the borough, according to the Minutes. This network has already been used to connect community hubs and CCTV, resulting in cost savings for the council.
ITS Technology Group representatives explained that the dark fibre network is replacing older copper networks with fibre, which can carry data much faster. An Internet Gateway has been built in the Bromley Exchange to provide full fibre services to businesses in the area. The company plans to make more connections to the network, ensuring they are actively used. ITS will be working with partners like Daisy to connect businesses to the dark fibre network.
In April, the Bromley Economic Partnership also heard updates from partner organisations. Michael Rogers LLP noted a recent surge in office market enquiries, while Your Bromley BID announced a business cyber security event in conjunction with the Met Police. The Glades reported interest from three new retailers for the old Debenhams store, and Bromley Adult Education highlighted their grade 2 Ofsted rating and AI training programs. Splash Damage reported a 50% reduction in staff levels, and Churchill Theatre celebrated a successful year with 200,000 visitors for 315 performances.
The Bromley Economic Partnership is scheduled to meet again on October 14th 2025, January 13th 2026 and April 14th 2026.
