Wandsworth Council's Planning Applications Committee has approved the temporary retention of a popular flower stall at Clapham Junction Railway Station for a further two years.
The decision, made at a meeting on Thursday, 17 September 2026, allows the stall to continue operating despite objections from some residents and the Wandsworth Conservation and Heritage Advisory Committee. The committee raised concerns about the flower stall's visual impact on the conservation area, obstruction of pedestrian flow, and highway safety risks.
However, the committee also noted a significant number of letters of support from the local community. Specifically, 58 letters of support
were received out of a total of 67 responses. Supporters highlighted the stall's long history, its contribution to the streetscape, and its role as a community focal point. A flower stall, in some capacity, has occupied the site for approximately 30 years, evolving from a traditional timber structure to its current larger container style
form. The most recent temporary consent was granted on 22 August 2024 for a two-year period.
Officers acknowledged that the temporary nature of the permission would not permanently constrain future masterplanning for the area. The Clapham Junction Urban Heart Masterplan is ongoing and not due to complete in the immediate future. The stall's presence or absence is considered unlikely to stymie or... coincide with the progression of the Clapham Junction Masterplan
due to the temporary nature of the permission.
