Hillingdon Council has permanently closed its West Drayton Waste Weekend Service, a decision expected to save the local authority over £300,000 annually. The facility shut its doors on Thursday, September 24, 2026, following reviews of financial, legal, equalities, and services.

Councillor Wayne Bridges, Cabinet Member for Residents' Services, acknowledged the closure might cause inconvenience but stressed that alternative services remain available. Residents can utilise the Harefield Civic Community Site, an expanded programme of pop-up waste drop-and-go events, and the Spaceway Household Recycling Centre.

The pop-up waste drop service will be rotated across targeted locations in the borough every two weeks, with at least six sessions planned for Yiewsley and West Drayton over the next year. Residents can stay informed about these events via the Love Clean Streets app, with hopes to extend its use to all residents in due course.

Access to the Spaceway Household Recycling Centre will continue seven days a week, offering increased availability compared to a weekend-only service. The council confirmed that the closure pertains specifically to waste and recycling services and does not affect the reuse shop, which is operated by a contractor.

The decision was made under delegated authority, as detailed in the public reports pack for the council meeting on 24th September 2026 [https://modgov.hillingdon.gov.uk/documents/g5136/Public%20reports%20pack%2024th-Sep-2026%2019.30%20Council.pdf?T=10].
