Hillingdon Council Reviews Parking Policies to Ensure Affordability and Accessibility

Hillingdon Council is undertaking a continuous review of its parking policies to ensure they remain affordable, accessible, and responsive to local demand, while also supporting disabled motorists and town centres.

Councillor Wayne Bridges, Cabinet Member for Residents' Services, stated that Parking policies must strike the right balance for residents, businesses and visitors across all of Hillingdon. He added that the Council is working with its contractor, Coa, to modernise parking management across the borough. This includes expanding the use of ANPR technology and increasing the availability of pay-by-phone facilities and other digital payment options.

These improvements aim to make parking more convenient for motorists and enable the Council to better utilise data to support more efficient and targeted enforcement, particularly in tackling unauthorised parking and protecting school keep clear zones.

Councillor Bridges also addressed concerns about the move towards cashless payment systems, noting that only 5.6% of parking transactions are currently made in cash. He advised that an executive decision report on parking consultation, which would determine the outcome of these changes, had been circulated and would be acted upon accordingly. Further details on the specific changes to parking fees or structures being considered can be found in the executive decision report on parking consultation.

Residents continue to have a direct voice in local parking matters through the Council's petition process, ensuring community views are considered when changes are proposed. The Council's objective is to deliver a parking service that is fair, practical, and efficient, while remaining responsive to the needs of local communities and the wider borough.
