Wandsworth residents will soon have more options for car sharing, with new providers set to launch in the borough by the end of the year. The move comes after Zipcar's withdrawal from the UK market earlier in 2026.
Councillor Nick Austin, Cabinet Member for Transport, confirmed that measures have been put in place to attract alternative car club operators. These include waiving operator fees until at least April 2027 and reducing administrative requirements. The council has also committed to regular officer contact with current and potential operators to foster strong working relationships.
These changes are designed to make it easier for operators to set up and manage their services. As Councillor Austin stated, we have waived any fees up until at least April 2027 and agreed less administration to reduce operator costs, such as not requiring formal contracts.
Currently, 66 car club bays are occupied or committed to car clubs. By the end of the fourth quarter of 2026, the borough is expected to see car clubs operated by Enterprise, Co-Wheels, Higher Car, and Kendall Go.
