Listed building consent granted for Putney Bridge Road door replacement
Wandsworth Council's Planning Applications Committee has approved listed building consent for works at 22 Putney Bridge Road, SW18 1HS. The application sought permission to remove the existing timber front door canopy and replace it with a like-for-like timber replica.
The committee, meeting on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, acknowledged that the original canopy and its supporting brackets were historic elements of the Grade II listed property. However, evidence presented indicated that the timber structure had significantly deteriorated due to rot and beetle infestation, making sensible repair impossible. For the replica canopy, Scots pine, potentially the original timber, was unavailable. An alternative timber has been specified for the replica, which would not be inappropriate
and the proposed timberwork will be painted and therefore the colour, texture and grain will not be visible.
