Wandsworth Council has elected Councillor Emmeline Owens as its new Mayor following the recent borough elections. The annual meeting of the council saw Councillor Owens secure the mayoral position with 29 votes, defeating Councillor Graeme Henderson, who received 26 votes, with one abstention. This close vote count reflects the council's current composition of no overall control following the recent elections.

Councillor Ethan Brooks, proposing Councillor Owens, described her as wonderfully, unmistakably Wandsworth, highlighting her community involvement as a rugby mum and a long-standing school governor. Beyond these roles, Councillor Owens brings a distinguished career both behind her and ahead of her in public service and the commercial world, and has experience in the council committee room.

Councillor Owens accepted the role, stating she would duly and faithfully fulfil the duties of it, according to the best of my judgement and ability.
