Wandsworth Committee Objects to Tudor Lodge Health Centre Development Over Size and Environmental Impact

Wandsworth's Conservation and Heritage Advisory Committee has unanimously objected to plans for a new house on land south of Tudor Lodge Health Centre, citing concerns over its size, scale, and potential impact on the local environment.

The committee's objection, raised at a meeting on Thursday, January 8, 2026, focused on several key issues regarding the proposed two-bedroom, single-storey plus basement level house.

A primary concern was the proposed thatched roof, with members questioning its precedent and noting that drawings indicated some walls were also intended to be thatched. The committee queried whether there was any precedent for the proposal to be a thatched roof for the site. Officers noted that in relation to the previous application which had been rejected at appeal, the Inspector had made comments regarding the overly modern style of the proposal. As such, it appeared that the applicant had pivoted to a more traditional design.

Members also referred to the applicant's design and access statement, which suggested a need to retain the space as open land. Concern was raised as to whether it was acceptable to build anything on this land, particularly given the statement indicating the need to retain the space as open land. The committee raised objections to the loss of trees that would result from the development. Beyond the loss of trees, the committee also expressed concern about other environmental impacts.

Their objection was further strengthened by an endorsement of the concerns previously raised by the Wandsworth Tree Wardens.
